I’ve been asked many times what the ONE THING is that I’ve done that’s had the biggest impact on my development and journey to self love, and full self expression.
There’s been many many things, including all sorts of healing, energy work, therapy, finding the right circle of friends, and a slew of other things.
But the one practice that started it all and opened me up to full self-connection?
The one practice—totally free, super simple, and insanely effective—that if you start, can fast-track your journey to self-confidence, radiance, and self-trust?
It’s the one practice that’s absolutely necessary if you want to be able to know, hear, and trust your intuition so you can fully glow – because remember, glow is an outward expression of your internal energy.
Would you try it?
For me, that practice is meditation. I know it’s becoming trendy these days, and for good reason. It’s hands-down the most impactful thing I’ve ever done for my inner and outer glow.
And before you dismiss it, read the rest of this post! I won’t ever promote, recommend, or swear by anything that I haven’t tried for myself and seen real results with. And that’s why my go-to and foundational answer is always meditation.
Here’s why:
I used to struggle with self-expression.
I felt choked by things like fear, wanting approval, trying to be “good,” and people-pleasing.
But at the root of all that was one HUGE problem: I didn’t even know what to express anyway, because I was so out of tune with my inner voice.
I was used to listening to others and following their advice, lead, and directions. I would ignore the negative feelings that showed up in my body and just go with what I was being told.
I would suppress the negative emotions and thoughts that came up because they were too uncomfortable to sit with.
And here’s how meditation helped me:
I got used to really listening.
I started paying attention to how thoughts literally felt in my body.
I stopped judging my negative thoughts as negative, because meditation means you allow the thoughts to come without judgment.
And because of that, I was able to learn from those thoughts and discover why I was thinking them.
And then understand why I was feeling a certain way.
And then listen to the wisdom in my body when I would ask it questions.
And the answers came.
Slowly, over time, listening to and sitting with my whole self became natural, safe, and educational.
The concept of meditation – of getting in tune with your higher self, of listening to your gut, of trusting and following your intuition, and learning how to choose and act based on what your body and intuition is telling you – is at the base of all I do.
Whether I’m doing individual coaching and working with a client in a Style Edit Session, talking about color and style, or helping you hone your own self-expression, meditation is how I started that, and it’s the basis for how I cultivate it in myself and in my clients and students.
How to Start Meditating Today
If you’re new to meditation, a great place to start is Vedic meditation—an ancient practice that’s both simple and powerful. Here’s a quick guide to get you started:
- Set aside time: Begin with just 10–20 minutes, twice a day. Morning and late afternoon are great times.
- Find a quiet spot: Sit comfortably, either in a chair or on the floor. You don’t have to be fancy—just somewhere you won’t be interrupted.
- Choose a mantra: A mantra is a simple, calming sound or word that you silently repeat to yourself. A classic one in Vedic meditation is “so hum” (which means “I am that” in Sanskrit).
- Close your eyes and breathe: Sit with your eyes closed and gently repeat your mantra. Don’t force it—let it flow naturally with your breath.
- Allow your mind to wander: It’s totally normal for your thoughts to drift. If they do, gently return to your mantra without judgment.
- Finish gently: When your time is up, take a moment to sit quietly before opening your eyes and moving on with your day.
If a mantra doesn’t resonate with you, simply focus on your breath. Inhale deeply, exhale fully, and notice the rhythm of your breathing.
Free and Paid Resources to Support You
The beauty of meditation is that it’s accessible to everyone. Here are a few resources to help you dive in:
- Free apps: Try Insight Timer or Calm for guided meditations
- YouTube: Search for beginner meditation videos.
- Paid programs or tracks: If you want deeper guidance, consider courses like those from Emily Fletcher (Ziva Meditation), Abraham Hicks, Cathy Heller, or other trusted teachers. (You can also learn from me in a one-on-one session if you feel so called!)
Start small, and don’t worry about “getting it right.” Meditation is about progress, not perfection. The more you practice, the more you’ll notice subtle shifts in how you feel, think, and show up in the world.
I’d love to hear how your first meditation goes, or if you have any questions or experiences you want to share about it–comment and let me know!
